On 18th October while at Uganda Media Centre during a press conference Hon Beti kindly asked the street vendors to vacate the streets and use the designated markets with allocated space for them. She affirmed that this is the only way we can make our city look beautiful as Ugandans want it, therefore we should work  together towards this.

In her own words she said, ” Kampala Capital City is government by the constitution, Kampala Capital City Act,2010 and the KCCA administers and enforcers several ordinances and bylaws including, the Kampala city (maintenance of Law and order).

she added that they have received and discussed several petitions, views and concerns of various stake holders and met with the political technical leaders of Kampala to address the issues of trade order in the city.

The Ministry has conducted a tour of the city, particular the central Business District and witnessed directly what the absence of trade order has reduced Kampala city to.

“We have received and considered  various suggestions on how to resolve the street vending question and the Ministry has directed the Kampala Capital City Authority to provide medium and long term strategies on the improvement of trade order in the city”, she said.

I therefore stand with Hon. Beti Kamya to also appeal to the general public to work with the Minister. She needs 100 percent support from all of us, if we really want to see a beautiful city. A case in point was the resistance at Wandegeya before that existing modern market was built until some minimal force was used. If you went there today, you may not even think you are in Wandegeya.

Let us not be against development like some politicians only playing games. I am talking about the Mayor Elias Lukwago, who has been reducing the speed of Kampala’s growth since Jennifer Musisi was appointed till now. The focus should be on putting brains together to put a smile on a person living in the city.
