Piloting the first packaged Sewerage treatment plant in Uganda

The Kisoro Compact Wastewater Treatment Plant is designed to treat 100,000 litres of sewage per day. As the name suggests, the unit is compact in nature that it has a small foot print in terms of land requirements, is easy to assemble and dismantle, and easy to operate. The system uses an enhanced biological treatment process, followed by sand and activated carbon filtration. The system shall help National Water and Sewerage Corporation to efficiently meet the effluent discharge standards as required by Law, there by contributing to environmental protection. In addition the system shall address the problem of smell which is synonymous with many traditional treatment installations. The system has been designed for a twenty year design horizon. Once the pilot Project which has started with the towns of Kisoro and Fort Portal is completed, it shall be roled out to other towns with sewage management challenges.

* This plant is the first of the kind in Uganda.
