The URA #TaxKatale (a door- to-door tax sensitisation campaign) is in Masaka today 9th/3/17 and tomorrow 10/3/17.
A team from URA is combing the Masaka Business hub delivering walk-in tax education sessions to the Masaka business community over the two days in a bid to promote organic compliance and awareness of tax rights and responsibilities.
Masaka has 32,109 registered Taxpayers. There has been noted improvement in VAT & PAYE performance in the region. With the enrollment of TREP, the register is projected to grow by 15℅.
Masaka thrives in agriculture, small scale industrial production in terms of value addition to the agro-process especially coffee processing, hospitality business (Hotels & Low cost accommodation lodges), cottage industry, soft drinks manufacturing, wholesale and retail business, transport sector which supports the cross border trade especially at Mutukula, metal fabrication, property income , education, construction and NGO’s.
The best performing sectors in Masaka are wholesale, education, real estate & agriculture.
Last FY 2015/16 , Masaka DT office collected 5,171,998,510 Ugx against a target of 6.1 Bn performing at 85.0℅.
During the first half of this FY 2016/17 , Masaka DT office has collected 3,749,306,739 against a target of 3.1 Bn performing at 124.3℅.
We are therefore here in Masaka to discuss how we can enhance this performance in a bid to develop the country further.
We have tax initiatives in place e.g TREP ; a collaboration between URA,URSB and the Masaka Municipal Council and the One Stop Shops that we encourage the Masaka community to embrace.
We also encourage the community to embrace better record keeping practices and TIN / business registration.
