This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda at a meeting he convened at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday 2 August 2017 to plan for the burial of the former Chairman of the UPC, legislator, minister and local leader.
Rurangaranga, 85, passed on on Monday night, at his home in Kitagata, Sheema District.
The meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister was attended by members of Rurangaranga’s family including the widow, Winifred Rurangaranga and children, the leadership of UPC led by Party President Jimmy Akena, and Government representatives, including tourism minister Prof Ephraim Kamuntu, Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa, Public Service Minister, Muruli Mukasa and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija. UPC stalwart and economist, Yona Kanyomozi also attended the meeting as well as Hon Cecilia Ogwal.
Commenting on the late, Rurangaranga, Prime Minister Rugunda said: ” Our elder Edward Rurangaranga played a significant role in Uganda’s pre and post independence history, both at local and national levels. He mentored many and was a principled man. May the Almighty God Rest His Soul in Eternal Peace.”
The meeting released the progamme for sending off Rurangaranga as follows:
Wednesday 2nd August 2017—2pm—-Body at Uganda House
Thursday 3rd August 2017–10am to 5pm–Body lies in State in Parliament for public viewing and for Parliament to pay tribute
Friday 4th August 2017–9am to 12 noon–Funeral Service at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero
Friday 4th August 2017–Afternoon–Body taken to Kitagata, Sheema
Saturday 5th August 2017– 12 noon–Burial at his home in Kitagata, Sheema
